OUR RATIOS

At Pebbles preschool we exceed the ratio of adult to children that are set out in the Welfare Requirements:
2 year olds - 1 adult to 5 children
3 & 4 year olds - 1 adult to 8 children
Our ratio is no higher than 1 adult to 6 children and often lower
.

This helps us to:

  • Give time and attention to each child
  • Talk with the children about their interests and activities
  • Help children to experience and benefit from all the activities we provide
  • Allow the children to explore and be adventurous in safety
  • Enable the key person to carry out individual/group activities with their key children, ensuring assessment of the children's needs and good progress towards the Learning Outcomes.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Learning is natural

PEBBLES IS…

  • A homely, warm, welcoming, caring, secure, fun environment in which to play and learn;
  • Somewhere we can all be yourselves and develop a positive sense of self;
  • A place that encourages children to express and understand their own and other’s emotions through laughter, smiles, tears and hugs;
  • Where we nurture creativity and curiosity – learning through exploration, experimentation and trial and error in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere;
  • Where each individual’s voice, idea, opinion is heard, respected and valued;
  • Where children are provided with the freedom to make the right choices;
  • Where great importance is placed on developing children’s life skills – watching them flourish when becoming independent, gaining responsibility, working as a team and being socially confident;
  • A place that provides  children with the confidence, independence, skills and attitudes to become life-long learners;
  • Full of a variety of outdoor experiences - using nature, in a fun way to teach all aspects of learning.

OUR VALUES

  • Happiness and fulfilment
  • Honesty, respect and responsibility
  • Sense of belonging
  • Everyone is unique and valued

OUR COMMITTEE

Pebbles preschool is a non-profit making charity that is committee run.  Therefore, all parents are welcome to join our Annual General Meeting which takes place in October and at this annual meeting parents have the opportunity to join the committee and share in the staff’s vision to continual improve Pebbles for the benefit of the children.

Being on the committee is also a chance for parents to develop skills they didn’t even know they had and very importantly to make friends and support each other as well as Pebbles.

As we are members of the Early Years Alliance, we are well supported - we have access to up-to-date early years research documents, policies, training for both the staff and the committee and legal advice when needed.
