This week at Pebbles:
We have had a lovely first week back and have spent lots of time on our theme, indoors and out. We have to say a massive thank you to Molly's family for fund raising and building our amazing vegetable/flower beds. The children have had an amazing time up at the garden helping to move the top soil into and around the raised beds to cover our potato plants, planting out our seedlings and covering them so that the birds don't eat them!
Our food and rainbow focus has been yellow with a little orange. The children have felt different yellow and orange fruits and vegetables - orange, carrot, parsnip, baby corn on the cob, banana, pineapple, honeydew melon and lemon. The older children used really good descriptive words when feeling the foods like curvy, long, round, bumpy, spiky, cold, hard. The childrern have learnt that yellow and orange fruits and vegetables are good for our eye health and for stopping us getting poorly (our immune system).
We have thought of yellow things in nature e.g. butterflies, autumn leaves, sunflowers and bananas and have started to create a new display board of a rainbow with these items. We have also been playing the Peter rabbit veggie patch lotto.
Next week we will focus on the colour orange, introducing the children to butternut squash, sweet potatoes and other orange fruits and vegetables. We will make soup for snack and find items of nature that are orange when we are out and about and on the internet for the next layer of our rainbow. They will make orange playdough for the children to roll into oranges, carrots, etc. adding details like dimples and lines, etc.
