We have added red to our rainbow and had the most amazing tasting week of red and pink fruits. The Wednesday children were brilliant at describing the fruits in the feely bag and then every single children tasted the different fruits - pink dragon fruit, pink grapefruit and pomegranate seeds. They also felt a piece of rhubarb from Mandy's garden and then we had rhubarb and plum crumble (granola was used for the crumble). This did not go down too well but Poppy, Olivia, River, Franklin and Morven need a special mention for eating theirs all up.
We have had an amazing time at the veggie garden. On Monday Maisie's mum surprised us by bringing in their gorgeous ducklings; on Tuesday four of the older children got to help develop the garden with the Year 6's, Mrs Sharpe and Stevie as part of the school's Royal Holticultural Society award. The children moved soil into the veggie bed, planted lettuce, basil and random flowers and started building a bug hotel. Another 4 children will take put with the Year 5's next week. On Thursday we found a small nest to add to the bug hotel and Martha made friends with a snail and on Friday we went for a lovely walk and had our snack out in the meadow. We got to run down the slope which we haven't done for ages as there is always dog poo in there.
Next week we will focus on the colour green. We have already thought of lots of fruits and vegetables that are green that we will be having for snack or feeling and tasting. We will be learning a veg and fruit song and for malleable we will be making green slime.
